City students get close look at tourism career

HCM CITY (VNS)— Tourism students in HCM City will learn more about their career options and opportunities when meeting with prospective employers under a special programme that begins today.

Called Duong Vao Nghe (career path for tourism students), the programme is a series of six seminars that will be held in various universities in the city, beginning with Hong Bang University in Tan Phu District.

The programme will introduce the skill sets needed to forge a successful career in tourism, activities designed to boost the image of people in the tourism industry, and taking photographs under an event called "I am professional."

The progamme will include a seminar that will deal with how to choose a career in tourism, what its real demands are, how students need to prepare themselves and the difficulties they are likely to face.

They can also meet and discuss issues of concern with representatives of the city's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, travel companies, hotels, restaurants and experienced tour guides.

Later, they can apply for internships with their companies of choice and practise recruitment interviews with real companies.

The other five universities that will host the programme are: Van Lang University, HCM City University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ton Duc Thang University, Sai Gon Tourism Vocational College and Van Hoa University.

On January 11, 2014, a 2013-summation ceremony and a celebration of the Tourism Career Day will be held on the Saigon River Cruise ship with the attendance of representatives from 32 universities and colleges that have tourism faculties.
